TREATMENT - ENDOMETRIOSIS

Endometriosis can be treated with a range of options, including medication, lifestyle changes, and surgery. The best treatment option for you will depend on the severity of your symptoms, your overall health, and your personal preferences , your age and fertility status.

In some rare cases, endometriosis can go away on its own. Over time, endometriosis lesions can occasionally get smaller. This usually only happens after menopause, which is often related to a drop in the amount of estrogen in your body. Since endometriosis is hormone related, it is quite rampant in the reproductive age group. Unfortunately for most women, endometriosis has no cure!It requires a lifelong followup especially for women suffering from chronic pelvic pain.

Medication

Some medications can help manage the symptoms of endometriosis. These may include

•Pain relievers: Over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen can help manage mild to moderate pain associated with endometriosis.

•Hormonal therapies: Hormonal therapies, such as birth control pills, patches, or hormone shots, can help regulate the menstrual cycle and reduce the growth of endometrial tissue. Other hormonal therapies, such as GnRH agonists or Danazol, can also be used to suppress estrogen production and reduce the growth of endometrial tissue.

•Progestin therapy: Progestin is a hormone that can be used to help reduce the growth of endometrial tissue.

Lifestyle Changes

Certain lifestyle changes can also help manage the symptoms of endometriosis. These may include

•Exercise: Regular exercise can help reduce pain and inflammation associated with endometriosis.

•Diet: A healthy, balanced diet can help reduce inflammation in the body and improve overall health.

•Stress management: Stress can exacerbate endometriosis symptoms. Practices such as yoga, meditation, or deep breathing exercises can help manage stress and improve overall well-being.

Surgery

Surgery is often recommended for women with severe endometriosis symptoms or those who are experiencing infertility. The goal of surgery is to remove the endometrial tissue growth and relieve pain. The surgery may be done using traditional minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery or Robotic surgery. Laparoscopic surgery is the preferred method for treating endometriosis because it is less invasive and has a shorter recovery time. Our surgeons have extensive experience in performing laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis. During the surgery, the surgeon will use a small camera to view the endometrial tissue growth and remove it using specialized surgical tools. After the procedure, the patient may go back home the very same day. However we recommend the patient to stay around the hospital for the next 7 days that will help us in monitoring her until she is fit to travel. In addition to surgical removal of endometrial tissue growth, our specialists will also offer you fertility-sparing and fertility preserving options like cryofreezing of oocytes or embryos which can be later used in vitro fertilization (IVF or ICSI ) for women who wish to become pregnant. Our team will work closely with the patient to develop a personalized treatment plan that addresses their specific needs and goals.

It’s important to note that while surgery can be effective in treating endometriosis, it is not a permanent cure. Endometrial tissue growth can return after surgery, so it’s essential to continue monitoring symptoms and working closely with a healthcare provider to manage the condition long-term.

Endometriosis is a complex and often challenging condition to manage, but there are effective treatment options available. Our team of surgeons are highly skilled in laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis and can provide patients with personalized care and treatment options. If you are experiencing symptoms of endometriosis, we encourage you to speak with your healthcare provider and explore your treatment options with us.
