Symptoms of Endometriosis

Symptoms of Endometriosis

Endometriosis symptoms can vary widely from person to person, and some women may have no symptoms at all. However, some common signs and symptoms of endometriosis include

1. Severe pain during menstruation . This pain is quite debilitating and severely reduces the patient’s quality of life.

2. Pain during sexual activity. Some of these women shy away from sexual intercourse because of the fear of pain.

3. Severe constipation and sometimes bleeding while passing stools. The patient feels bloated all the time and medications usually do not relieve the symptoms.

4. Pain and passage of clots while passing urine.

5. Very rarely patients who have endometriosis of distant regions like the diaphragm , they have pain while deep breathing and exercising.

6. Many of these women with endometriosis suffer from infertility. This is because endometriosis clumps the tubes and ovaries together called adhesions .These adhesions may cause tubal damage and sometimes even cause filling of the fallopian tubes with fluid called hydrosalpinx. Cysts in the ovaries also hamper egg release and reduce the quality of the eggs. This is evident from the AMH levels which are an indirect estimate of the quality and quantity of ovarian reserve. This value is very important for women planning to undergo ART treatment.

7.Other signs and symptoms. You may experience fatigue, diarrhea, constipation, bloating or nausea, especially during menstrual periods.

Endometriosis and infertility

For pregnancy to occur, an egg must be released from an ovary, travel through the fallopian tube, become fertilized by a sperm cell and attach itself to the uterine wall to begin development. Endometriosis may obstruct the tube and keep the egg and sperm from uniting. For that reason , women with mild to moderate endometriosis can still conceive and carry a pregnancy.

That’s the reason why the moment endometriosis is cleared , we provide ovulatory medication for the women to conceive as early as possible. The first surgery should be the best (and possibly final)  surgery for the patient because the procedure is invasive and requires anesthesia . It is suggested that one seeks treatment.
