Stages of Endometriosis

Stages of Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a chronic condition that affects the female reproductive system. It occurs when the tissue that normally lines the inside of the uterus, known as the endometrium, grows outside of the uterus and attaches to other organs in the pelvis or abdomen. This misplaced tissue can cause a range of symptoms, including pain, heavy periods, painful intercourse, infertility, and bowel or bladder problems.

Mild

Small powder burn spots start appearing in and around the uterosacral ligaments and pouch of Douglas which is in the posterior part of the uterus . These patches usually are at the surface level and do not cause any symptoms.

Moderate

There might be cysts developing in the ovaries and the pouch of Douglas might get obliterated due to the adhesions between the ovaries. Some of the patients might experience pain during their periods and might suffer from infertility issues.

Severe

The last stage of endometriosis characterised by a large cysts in the ovaries with severe adhesions between the ovaries , uterus , fallopian tubes , bowel and bladder. These patients suffer from infertility , excess pain during sex , while passing motion or even passing urine. There are several other classifications for endometriosis however for the benefit of the patients we have simplified it into these three categories .
