Causes of Enrometriosis

Causes of Enrometriosis

The exact cause of endometriosis is still unknown. However, several factors may increase a woman’s risk of developing the condition, including:

Theories surrounding endometriosis

Retrograde menstruation – The menstrual blood along with the endometrial cells flows through the fallopian and into the pouch of Douglas . These cells stick to the peritoneum , side walls and ovaries. Every menstrual cycle , more such cells acuminate and grow like normal endometrium responding to the hormones.

Transformation of peritoneal cells. In this theory , immune factors transform the peritoneal cells into endometrial cells . This is also known as the induction theory.

Embryonic cell transformation. In this theory hormones transform early embryonic cells into endometrial glands during puberty.

Surgical scar implantation. After a surgery like a cesarin section , when the uterine cavity is opened for delivery of the baby , the endometrial cells may deposit in the surgical scar causing scar endometriosis.

Endometrial cell transport. In this theory the lymphatic system may transport the endometrial tissue from the inner lining of the uterus to within the pelvis.

Immune system disorder. This theory speculates that a possible immune system disorder may not be able to destroy the endometrial cells that flow into the pelvis through any of the other theories postulated before.
